Petitcodiac council rejects maintaining river status quo
by Joe Behar

Village council resolved this week to send a strong message to the Petitcodiac River Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

Coun. Eric MacMackin’s motion to send the EIA a statement rejecting the status quo as a final option of the study was unanimously approved by council.

The EIA guidelines were recently released to the public. They include several options to be studied, including maintenance of the status quo, with the gates being opened at peak times to allow fish to migrate along the river.

“The intention of this motion is that we don’t want to see them spend $3 million on a study and then put it on a shelf,” said Coun. Jerry Gogan.
