Petitcodiac River case delayed again

An important court case involving pollution of the Petitcodiac River by a city of Moncton property has been delayed again.

The federal government laid charges in the spring against the city, its chief engineer, a Fredericton consulting firm and its engineer, after it found toxic leachate leaking into the Petitcodiac River system.

The toxins are from the city’s old dump along the river ,which is now home to walking trails.

A lawyer representing the city told the court he needs more time to go over documents.

The judge agreed but expressed concern because the case has been before the courts since April and no plea has been entered.

The parties will be back in court Dec. 16.
